My theory is that most people feel disconnected from politics in general and don't feel represented in Washington. My survey is on surveymonkey.com and has a variety of question formatting from sliding scale to free response. I think this is pretty big issue today and you've got a good survey. However, you've forgotten (as have many) America's third largest party. Your question asking if america is "liberal" or "conservative" also does not factor in authoritarian versus liberal, which is an important factor.
